Workshop, Design, and Strategy Created to Make the World a Better, Safer, More Connected Place to Live

KEMET Electronics Corporation is a publicly traded 100-year-old organization. Their components (found in all sorts of technological devices) help us do things like travel to space, drive autonomously, renew energy, communicate via satellite, and keep hearts beating (to name only a few). They are in every household but are not a household name. The client asked us to help them redefine their digital brand image and create strategies for the largest initiatives on their roadmap for 2019 and beyond.

Since we began working with KEMET in mid-2018, we have felt extremely passionate about their mission to make the world a better, safer, more connected place to live. We have made it part of our solution to make sure they are reminded of this during every project we’ve worked with them on.

Over the course of the year, we have conducted 2 large creative workshops that led to eye-opening findings and discoveries for their organization. We analyzed their entire content structure and tech stack which consists of thousands of assets in over 14 locations. We built a full digital, social, and community strategy for the brand to achieve their goal of increasing content and reach by 10X. We performed a heuristic UX evaluation of the core quoting platform for their orgnization and delivered an extensive deck full of recommendations and analysis. We also supported two of their largest tradeshows (Electronica and APEC) with interactive table concepts/graphics and supporting physical materials.

The largest solution we delivered for KEMET was a full visual concept and brand for their new digital platform and eco-system. This included a name, logo, concept, architecture, content, detailed design comps, and multiple platform user flows. It was very well received by viewers during the unveiling at a Distributor Conference.

To get the organization aligned with foundational brand goals, the first thing we did with KEMET was to plan, prepare for, and run a full day Creative Workshop that included around 15 of its key stakeholders.

Workshop goals included:

  • Create a clear vision & common understanding of what the KEMET digital experience should be cross-platform.
  • Have a much better idea of what each internal group and person should be focused on.
  • Get tangible results, including actionable next steps, project plan for MVP, and long term roadmap.
  • Understand what is (and is not) possible with the new digital platform in order for the team to make a conscious decision on what is the best solution moving forward.

We organized several excersizes to help the team define who they are as a brand and what is important to them moving forward. We then delivered a full detailed Workshop Summary with the results of each activity. Ultimately, questions were answered like, “What do we want users to think about KEMET when engaging with us?”, “What value do they get by being part of the KEMET experience?”, “How do we speak to them?”, and “How do we measure success?”

One of the most important problems we’ve been helping KEMET solve is how to properly organize and define their current platform and community eco-system.

The KEMET Story

KEMET continues to innovate within the electronic component manufacturing industry, maintaining a reputation of being a trusted and reliable supplier to companies worldwide.

With 100 years of industry experience, we remain forward thinking by making the impossible possible.

KEMET enables outstanding growth through our commitment to sharing and applying our knowledge for the purposes of education, social responsibility, and humanitarian eforts.

After the first workshop, we began working with them on several large strategies, content audits, and evaluations of their digital properties. The largest being a comprehensive and robust content audit and strategy designed to increase the amount of content KEMET produces and:

  • Identify content gaps and key areas of opportunity
  • Define appropriate content to produce and the channels it should live on
  • Help engineers solve design issues
  • Expand KEMET’s processes and media platforms
  • Generate engagement

Simultaneously, we performed an intensive assessment, content strategy, communications plan, and UX/UI recommendations guide for an internal quote platform that was described as the “heart of their business.”

We worked closely with KEMET engineers to design over 30 digital booth assets and interactive table decks for trade shows. The next initiative we are focused on is defining a global style guide for these types of assets, including technical documents and data visualization.

One exciting concept we were able to deliver for them was a shareable infographic highlighting how KEMET components connect to the periodic table elements and each industry.
